TRALEG Research Team “The Demise of Collective Organization in Europe: The Decline in Union Membership and its Consequences” is organizing a workshop on 24-25 July 2009, in Amsterdam.
Call for Papers- We welcome research focusing on: Cross-national differences in union organization and union density in Europe and other advanced economies: causes of decline and, and its consequences for the places of unions in the economy and society, and for social cohesion. We especially encourage:
- research based on survey data (ISSP, ESS, national surveys); and the comparison with administrative and institutional data.
- research on innovative union responses and strategies vis-à-vis decline of union membership and effectiveness.
- research aiming to integrate the knowledge and statistics on unions in CEE in the comparative analysis of trade unions, industrial relations and institutions of socio-economic governance.
- We welcome both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- A selection of drafts presented at the workshop will be considered for a special issue of a journal.
Submission deadline Extended abstracts should be sent to Monika-Ewa Kaminska [email protected] by 20 March 2009. Notification about acceptance will be given by 31 March 2009.
Costs Participation in the conference is free, travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed to the Team members (see the list below). Other Equalsoc members should contact their home institutions for Equalsoc funding.
Agenda We are planning to start the workshop around midday on Friday, 24 July 2009 and to finish in the early afternoon on Saturday, 25 July 2009. A more detailed schedule will be available soon.
