Educational Attainment and Class and Income Mobility

To assess the long-term developments in the conditions for social integration and social cohesion the team proposes three projects:

i) To perform – for a number of European countries – comparative studies on the changes that have occurred over 20th century birth cohorts in (a) inequality, according to social class, in educational attainment, and (b) the role played by education in the reproduction of social advantage from generation to generation.

ii) To study for selected countries similarities and differences in intergenerational income and class mobility

iii) To explore in a workshop the possibilities to develop a valid and internationally comparative measure of social origin in the European Social Survey and prepare a funding proposal.
