CALL FOR PAPERS

In 1992, the European Council issued a recommendation recognizing the basic right of a person to sufficient resources and social assistance. Today, almost 20 years later, social assistance has been substantial eroded across Europe, with negative consequences for poverty alleviation. This is arguably a particularly disquieting trend in the current economic context of increased exposure to joblessness and income loss. Yet we only have vague ideas about international patterns in social assistance reform, something that in part is related to problems of indicator construction and comparative institutional analysis.

This call is for papers that seek to make a contribution on this issue. Preferably papers take an international perspective, but this does not exclude more case oriented approaches where issues of more general relevance is elaborated in-depth. We invite abstracts (200-300) words by March 15, 2010, where after journals will be contacted. Abstracts should be sent to Ive.marx@ua.ac.be. Full papers (5000-8000 words, incl. endnotes and references) are expected for discussion at the next EQUALSOC MIPI meeting in Stockholm on June 15, 2010.

Any further question can be send to Ive (ive.marx@ua.ac.be), Thomas (Thomas.Bahle@ mzes.uni-mannheim.de) or Kenneth (kennethn@sofi.su.se).
