The Department of Political and Social Sciences at the Pompeu Fabra University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Lecturer to begin in September 2010.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Sociology, Economics or Demography; have a strong background in quantitative research methods, and be preferably specialized in the broad areas of social inequality and stratification, immigration or public policy evaluation.
Teaching duties include courses at both undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate is expected to become integrated in any of our ongoing, comparative research projects which focus on the following themes: changing relations between households and labor markets; the dynamics of life chances; women and employment; social policies; and the demography of transition to adulthood.
Our department combines research in political science, sociology and industrial relations. It offers degrees at both the undergraduate and doctoral level. It has been ranked among the best departments in Political Science in Europe, according to the ranking of the Center for Higher Education Development.

The Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas – CIS (Spanish Centre for Sociological Research) announces the creation of the annual Prize for the Best Article Published in the Revista Española de Investigaciones Sociológicas, REIS (Spanish Sociological Research Journal www.reis.cis.es ).
- With this prize, which will be awarded 2,500 Euros, the CIS seeks to acknowledge the articles displaying the most originality, relevance and methodological quality published annually in its flagship journal, the REIS. The first Prize will be awarded in 2010 for the best article published in 2009.
- The REIS is cited at the Thomson Reuters Social Sciences Citation Index and Elsevier’s Scopus. It is also part of REDALYC, the Network of Scientific Journals of Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal, which only includes scientific publications that meet demanding international publishing quality standards.
- The REIS aims to be a bilingual journal and therefore welcomes articles written in both English and Spanish. Editorial Guidelines and Instructions for Authors (both in Spanish and in English) can be found at the REIS website (www.reis.cis.es).
- The REIS is now available at Metapress, which provides access to over 37,000 scholarly publications through one of the world’s most important web-based content management systems. A two-year post-doctoral position at SOFI, Stockholm
The Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI) announces a two-year post-doctoral position in the social science project ”Social Stratification Dynamics”, financed through the Swedish Initiative for Research on Microdata in the Social and Medical Sciences (SIMSAM).
The position is for the period 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2011 or as otherwise agreed. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to bring along plans for his/her own research based on Swedish register data, to collaborate intensively with other project members, contribute to the development of register-based research within the project.

3-year Post-Doc in Barcelona at the Institute of Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC):
The Institute of Economic Analysis – C.S.I.C. in Barcelona (www.iae.csic.es) invites applications for a JAE post-doctoral contract. The position is for 3 years, with the possibility of an extension towards a tenure track post under positive evaluation. This is a research job without teaching.
Starting date: May to September 2009.
Salary: Approx. 29,000€ per year

Requirements:
- Candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in Economics, Sociology, Demography or Political Science by December 2008
- Candidates should have a strong command in advanced quantitative research methods and practical experience in working with large and complex datasets.
- Candidates should have a promising research agenda and a high-publication potential in their field.
- Labour economics, labour-market sociology, social stratification and immigration research are fields of particular interest to the IAE (yet applications from other fields are also welcomed).
- Expression of interest must be received a.s.a.p. and before November 30th 2008.
