A Post-doctoral Fellowhsip, University College Dublin

This 3-year post-doctoral post arises under the UCD Growing Up in Ireland Research Programme which is currently being designed and initiated in order to promote, coordinate and support research on data now coming on stream from the Growing Up in Ireland (GUI) Survey – the National Longitudinal Study of Children. The GUI Data Manager-Analyst will act in two main roles:

The post-holder may also be requested to contribute to postgraduate teaching in UCD directly relevant to the GUI Research Programme. It is envisaged that the post-holder’s working time will be divided approximately as follows: 45 per cent on research, 45 per cent on data management and technical advice and 10 per cent on teaching.

Salary range: €35,000 – €52,000 p.a. Appointment on the above range will be commensurate with qualification and experience.

A vacancy for a post-doctoral researcher at the University College Dublin

University College Dublin has a vacancy for a post-doctoral researcher to work on a collaborative multi-institutional European research project funded by the EU’s Framework Programme on The Impact of Increasing Inequalities (GINI), with institutional partners the London School of Economics, the Universities of Amsterdam, Antwerp and Milan, and TARKI Research Institute in Budapest, involving leading social scientists from economics, sociology, political science, public health and social policy [see http://www.gini-research.org/articles/home].

The person appointed will conduct a specified programme of research and receive research training and development under the supervision and direction of Brian Nolan, the Principal Investigator at UCD. Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI), Stockholm University: PhD
position in Sociology

SOFI at Stockholm University announces a PhD position in Sociology, within the project ”Social Stratification Dynamics”. Interested candidates should have a research focus related to stratification and
mobility, e.g., research on poverty, distributional inequality, and mobility within and across generations. The successful candidate, within this research orientation, will have ample opportunity to develop and
pursue a unique PhD project through access to high quality register data, although other data sources can also be used. The initial monthly salary is about 21600 SEK and the position is for 48 months.

UNIVERSITAT POMPEU FABRA DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES : Tenure-track position in the Area of Sociology

The Department of Political and Social Sciences at the Pompeu Fabra University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Lecturer to begin in September 2010.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Sociology, Economics or Demography; have a strong background in quantitative research methods, and be preferably specialized in the broad areas of social inequality and stratification, immigration or public policy evaluation.

Teaching duties include courses at both undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate is expected to become integrated in any of our ongoing, comparative research projects which focus on the following themes: changing relations between households and labor markets; the dynamics of life chances; women and employment; social policies; and the demography of transition to adulthood.

Our department combines research in political science, sociology and industrial relations. It offers degrees at both the undergraduate and doctoral level. It has been ranked among the best departments in Political Science in Europe, according to the ranking of the Center for Higher Education Development.

A two-year post-doctoral position at SOFI, Stockholm

The Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI) announces a two-year post-doctoral position in the social science project ”Social Stratification Dynamics”, financed through the Swedish Initiative for Research on Microdata in the Social and Medical Sciences (SIMSAM).

The position is for the period 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2011 or as otherwise agreed. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to bring along plans for his/her own research based on Swedish register data, to collaborate intensively with other project members, contribute to the development of register-based research within the project.

3-year Post-Doc in Barcelona at the Institute of Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC):

The Institute of Economic Analysis – C.S.I.C. in Barcelona (www.iae.csic.es) invites applications for a JAE post-doctoral contract. The position is for 3 years, with the possibility of an extension towards a tenure track post under positive evaluation. This is a research job without teaching.
